Service-oriented Optimistic Active Respectful

Week of January 29- February 2

Weekly Message from Principal Edwards

Happy Friday, Eagles!

We did it. Tonight, you should celebrate that we made it through the first semester of the school year. It was a busy week on campus. We had our Winter SAP: School Action Plan presentation on Thursday with many esteemed NSD leaders and colleagues from our feeder elementary and high school. Students enjoyed meeting and seeing their previous principal(s) and meeting their secondary principal.

I am excited for the day in between semesters, Monday, January 29, 2024 (No School) so our SMS staff can regroup and get their grades finalized. As we launch into the new semester I would like to ask for parental support with the following expectations as we continue to build a strong, respectful, responsible learning community.

  • Getting to school on-time and being on-time to class. Tardies take away from student instructional time.

  • Eating breakfast & lunch. Students must eat so their brains can function properly. Talk with your student about keeping their school-issued PIN safe and secure. Do not share it with anyone, friend or not.

  • Respecting our campus is a huge priority. Please help us emphasize the importance of cleaning up after ourselves.

  • Treating each other respectfully is also a big point of emphasis. Talk to your students about being an upstander and role model to their peers. Negative talk, use of profanity, name-calling, shaming, harassing, or disrespect cannot be tolerated on campus. We want all students to feel safe and empowered at Skyview. Help us teach the children. Help us ensure all students feel a sense of belonging in middle school.

We're so proud to announce the outstanding achievements of our students in the Reflections competition. Congratulations to the State Qualifiers from Skyview Middle School:

Film Production: Anshi Shah, 7th grade Music Composition: Vindhya Pegatraju, 7th grade | Akshay Narayanan (Special Artist Division), 7th grade Visual Arts: Mehar Uppal, 7th grade | Shillan Khan, 8th grade Literature: Sruthi Gudimella, 8th grade

The State judging will occur in early February, and results are expected in late Feb/early March. More details here. I am so proud of these students.

Respectfully Yours,

Mrs. Jolene Grimes Edwards

After-School Activity Campus Expectations

If students plan to stay after school for any reason, they must be in the library. If they are staying to attend a sports game or competition they can leave the library for the event at 3:30.  Roaming the campus, breezeway, academic buildings, fields and/or courtyards is not permitted.

Drop Off/Pick Up Safety

  • Please do NOT use the parking lot to park and drop off your student(s). We have students and staff walking through the parking lot and it creates a dangerous situation with people trying to back up and turn around. Please ONLY use the drop-off loop. Be sure to pull all the way forward and keep traffic moving.

  • Please do NOT drop off or pick up your students in the bus parking lot (between the tennis courts and baseball fields) before school, after school, or after athletic practices/events. This interferes with our buses and their ability to maneuver. It is also a safety concern for students.

  • Safety is our number one priority, so please help us keep everyone safe by limiting distractions while you are driving and slowing down.

  • We have had several reports of students riding their bikes in the street. Please review the bike safety tips with your students.

  • Please follow all posted signage and be respectful of our neighbors.
