Week of February 12-16

Weekly Message from Principal Edwards

Happy Friday, Eagles!

We kicked off the week with our 8th grade R&R Refresher presentations to revisit school behavior expectations and give students examples of how to be in community with their peers. School administration challenged students to follow the rules, be on time, and to listen and respect each person in our community. Middle school is an important time in student(s) lives where they learn while doing, sometimes having to relearn multiple times before they finally get it. I call this the time in their lives where they continue to explore the unknown, where they may “Embrace the unknown, for it is the gateway to growth and opportunity.” Unknown author.  Our goal is to help all students feel a sense of belonging at Skyview as they continue to explore who they are in middle school.

I enjoyed watching the 7th/8th grade girls basketball team play the Leota Lions this week. It was fun to see them practice their basketball skills and compete like true Eagles. I also liked watching wrestling practice and enjoyed seeing our student athletes learn important techniques before their competition. The gym was packed and they all were putting in the work. I can’t wait to see them in action.

This week students officially created their Latinos Unidos Club. They look forward to building community together with their peers after school on Tuesdays. They look forward to having peers join the club to share their culture. Keeping ALL students active and involved at Skyview is a priority.

In classrooms, I am always amazed at how responsible and awesome our Peer Tutors are on campus. The care they show to peers and staff does not go unnoticed.

I look forward to five strong days of learning next week before the Mid-Winter Break on February 20-23. Have a safe and restful weekend.

Respectfully Yours,
Mrs. Jolene Grimes Edwards

SOARing Eagle Shout-outs!

Several of our students have been helping Canyon Creek Elementary with their Coyote Den. We would like to recognize these students for their amazing impact on these young students, their own personal growth, and their commitment to our community. Thank you to: Sarah Medrano, Samantha Lopez, and Alan Lopez! Way to make us all proud and serve your community!

Valentine Gram Sales

Send your friends a Valentine along with a stuffed bear, monkey or candy for Valentine’s Day.  Sales run from February 1st to February 13th during lunches. Bears and monkeys are $4 and candy is $2.

After-School Activity Campus Expectations

If students plan to stay after school for any reason, they must be in the library. If they are staying to attend a sports game or competition they can leave the library for the event at 3:30.  Roaming the campus, breezeway, academic buildings, fields and/or courtyards is not permitted.

Drop Off/Pick Up Safety

  • Please do NOT use the parking lot to park and drop off your student(s). We have students and staff walking through the parking lot and it creates a dangerous situation with people trying to back up and turn around. Please ONLY use the drop-off loop. Be sure to pull all the way forward and keep traffic moving.

  • Please do NOT drop off or pick up your students in the bus parking lot (between the tennis courts and baseball fields) before school, after school, or after athletic practices/events. This interferes with our buses and their ability to maneuver. It is also a safety concern for students.

  • Safety is our number one priority, so please help us keep everyone safe by limiting distractions while you are driving and slowing down.

  • We have had several reports of students riding their bikes in the street. Please review the bike safety tips with your students.

  • Please follow all posted signage and be respectful of our neighbors.
