Weekly Message from Principal Edwards

Happy Friday, Eagles!

"The Nature of a Flower is to Bloom." -  Alice Walker

May everyone enjoy a much needed Mid-Winter Break, February 19 - 23. There will be No School. The campus will be closed. We look forward to welcoming students and staff back on Monday, February 26th.

This week 8th graders started their 9th grade registration  with prospective high school counseling staff from North Creek HS and Innovation Lab HS. This is a big time for students and families as they discuss course options and start to lay the foundation to pathways for success in HS and beyond. I would like to encourage students and families to attend the North Creek Registration Night  at 6:00 pm on February 29th in the NCHS Commons. There will be an Elective Fair  from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. There is a Hi-Cap and Special Education Services  presentation beginning at 5:30 pm. According to Satya Nani, “A little progress each day adds up to big results.” The Class of 2028 has a bright future.

Congratulations to our Science Bowl Team  for a successful season: Arni Waghamare, Sarabhesh Saravana Kumar, Sarthak Kansal, Vibhi Shukla and Krish Shah. I am proud of them for their hard work. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this club possible. We continue to encourage students to charter clubs  through our Skyview ASB. Last week our Hispanic/Latino/a/x students chartered the  Latinos Unidos Club that will meet every Tuesday  after school in Room A127. There is an activity bus for students that departs Skyview around 4:15 pm. If your student has a fun club idea please have them connect with Mr. Bonder or a Skyview ASB Coordinator, Mr. Wright or Mrs. Ernster. Our goal is to have ALL students actively  participating in 1-2 activities, clubs or events at Skyview.

Girls basketball and Wrestling are in the air. Make sure that you come on out and support our teams. See information below to catch a game or match. We are very appreciative of our coaches and families who support our Skyview Athletics Program. Thank you parents for not parking in our  bus lanes. This important request makes picking up students safe for our bus drivers and we appreciate it.

Save the date:

On March 1st is the  Principal Coffee & Donuts at 7:30 - 8:30 am. I look forward to meeting families and discussing all things Skyview. Partnership with families is a priority. Your voice matters. Come be in community.

May everyone have a restful Mid-Winter Break (No School)  and enjoy your time with family and friends.

Respectfully Yours,

Mrs. Jolene Grimes Edwards

To apply, students must be logged into their own NSD Google account to  make a copy of the application in their Google Drive. Students must also be logged into their own NSD Google Account to submit the application.  Applications are due by April 1st.

If students are interested in applying for Honor Society recognition this year, please review all of the application requirements on our  website and join the Schoology group for updates (NJHS Schoology Group Access Code: CBJR-2869-ZD5CK). Spring Drama One Act Plays

Drama will be performing their spring one act plays “Hard Candy” and “Inanimate”  on March 8th at 7pm and Saturday March 9th at 3pm and 7pm.  Tickets will be on sale starting February 26th in the main office or through your touchbase account. Tickets are $6 with ASB and $8 without.

After-School Activity Campus Expectations

If students plan to stay after school for any reason, they  must be in the library. If they are staying to attend a sports game or competition they can leave the library for the event at 3:30.   Roaming the campus, breezeway, academic buildings, fields and/or courtyards is not permitted.

Drop Off/Pick Up Safety

  • Please do NOT use the parking lot to park and drop off your student(s).  We have students and staff walking through the parking lot and it creates a dangerous situation with people trying to back up and turn around. Please ONLY use the drop-off loop . Be sure to pull all the way forward and keep traffic moving.

  • Please do NOT drop off or pick up your students in the bus parking lot  (between the tennis courts and baseball fields)  before school, after school, or after athletic practices/events. This interferes with our buses and their ability to maneuver. It is also a safety concern for students.

  • Safety is our number one priority, so please help us keep everyone safe by  limiting distractions while you are driving and  slowing down.

  • We have had several reports of  students riding their bikes in the street. Please review the  bike safety tips with your students.

  • Please follow all posted signage  and be respectful of our neighbors.

News from the nurses

February is National Dental Health Month!

  • Lifelong habits begin at home.  Make dental health part of your daily routine and share these reminders with your whole family:

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, especially after breakfast and before bedtime.  Drinking water after eating also helps to clear your teeth of food particles.

  • Floss every day. An adult should help children under the age of eight to floss.  Older children should be ready to floss on their own.

  • Limit the number of times you eat snacks, especially the sticky ones and long lasting ones.

  • Visit a dentist regularly for a routine check up and a cleaning.

  • Protect your teeth by wearing a mouthguard when playing sports.

  • Don’t forget to change your toothbrush regularly, and after an illness.

Current Illness Recommendations:

  • Your child  must be fever-free for 24 hours  (without the use of fever-reducing medications) before they can return to school.

  • Your child must  not have any episodes of vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours  before they can return to school.
