With a career in education spanning over a decade, she has been dedicated to fostering inclusive learning environments, promoting social-emotional learning, implementing restorative practices, and advocating for social justice in every school and district she has served.
Kayla began her career in 2010 as a 10th-grade English teacher and debate coach in Benton, Arkansas. Her passion for equity in education led her to become a founding member of Arkansas Teach Plus, an organization committed to advocating for both educators and students in the Arkansas educational system.
Raised in a large Filipino and Cajun family, Kayla is the eldest of five siblings, with her youngest brother, Ian, currently in his teens. She entered the workforce at just 16 years old and has held a variety of roles, including grocery store clerk, Sonic carhop and assistant manager, senior sales associate, and nationally certified pharmacy technician—each experience shaping her strong work ethic and leadership skills.
Beyond her professional life, Kayla enjoys spending time with her family and her beloved dogs. She dreams of one day opening a "dog farm" that doubles as a bed and breakfast in retirement. As a lifelong English enthusiast, she is an avid reader, with some of her all-time favorite books including Fahrenheit 451, The Patron Saint of Nothing, The Hate U Give, and The Things They Carried.
A passionate traveler, Kayla loves exploring new places, cultures, and cuisines, especially in Spanish-speaking countries where she can continue honing her language skills.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Central Arkansas, where she also minored in Spanish and Education. She later obtained a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University and aspires to pursue a Doctorate in the future.

Nico William Bonder is the Assistant Principal at Skyview Middle School, where he is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and enriching learning environment where students “R.I.S.E.” and diverse cultures thrive. Born and raised in Coney Island, New York, Nico comes from a multiracial and multicultural background, with Puerto Rican, Black, and European heritage. His formative years were shaped by the New York City Department of Education, where he completed his K-12 education, graduating high school in 2008.
Before pursuing higher education, Nico took two gap years, gaining invaluable experience as a production assistant for The Tyra Banks Show and as a visual merchandiser for Ralph Lauren and Club Monaco. When he was ready to continue his education, he enrolled at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, completing his degree in International Law and Human Rights. Later attending Harvard’s Kennedy School for Government pursuing a Master of Public Administration, initially intending to pursue a career in government and policy. While earning his bachelor's he worked for the NYCDOE as a paraprofessional in District 75, supporting students with moderate to severe disabilities. This experience ignited his passion for education, leading him to pivot from government and law to teaching.
Determined to make a difference in the classroom, Nico earned his master’s degree in Special Education from Pace University. He spent several years teaching, serving as a literacy coach and later as a director of operations, before applying to the prestigious Leaders in Education Apprenticeship Program (LEAP). At just 27 years old, he was one of the youngest individuals admitted to the program. He went on to earn his third master’s degree in School Leadership from Bank Street College of Education in 2020.
Amid the challenges of the pandemic, Nico sought a new adventure and, in November 2020, relocated to the Pacific Northwest, settling in Seattle, Washington. Just a year later, he was offered a leadership position at Skyview Middle School, where he has now served for four years. Deeply committed to serving his students and staff, he continues to champion equity, creative/academic excellence, and community engagement.
Currently, Nico is furthering his expertise by pursuing an additional master’s degree in psychology at Harvard University’s School of Continuing Education. He is a member of Harvard’s School Leaders of Color Organizational Development Collaborative. In his spare time, he enjoys exploring the wonders of the world and the Pacific Northwest with his three beloved dogs—his service dog Jaffa, his Shiba Inu Lexi, and his black lab Anakin—always with a good book in hand.
